Welcome to Quarles Daylilies 2012
Located
in the Heart of the Bluegrass Country, near the Saddlebred Capitol of
the World, we’re nestled conveniently between Lexington and Louisville,
Kentucky, just a few miles off I-64.
In
addition to the wide selection of daylilies that we grow, we’re a
diversified family farm growing market vegetables and fruits as well as
a commercial cow/calf operation. The majority of the work on the
farm is still performed by family members and a few dedicated local
helpers. Last year was busy to say the least.
We graduated our son from Berea College in May and our oldest daughter
got married in June. Since we did all the flowers and made the
cakes for the wedding it was a rather jam packed time. She’s now in
Oklahoma with her husband and has started a new job out there.
Our second daughter continues to be the salesperson/dispatcher at the
local feed mill and helps with the cows and farm work evenings and
weekends. Our son has been helping out on the farm while he makes
his career choices and has been a big help this past summer. Our
youngest, now a junior, helps one the evenings and weekends and this
past summer was our presence at the Frankfort market.
We’ve
added an additional market so that we are now doing three farmer’s
markets on the weekends, Franklin County Farmer’s Market, Lexington
Farmer’s Market and in Louisville the Douglass Loop Farmer’s
Market. We continue to have our jams, jellies, salsas, relishes,
chutneys and pickles along with our breads, vegetables and beef.
Our beef has become a popular addition to our product line and along
with our value added products a popular choice of our two winter
markets in Lexington and Louisville. You can e-mail us with
orders for pick up at either market. If you’re in the area, by
all means stop in at these local markets and sample the variety of
Kentucky’s best.
We grow all types of daylilies, spiders, full forms, unusual forms, doubles, eyes and edges. You’ll find newer introductions from many major hybridizers as well as older award winning favorites on our sales lists. We offer many fine Munson cultivars for those intrigued with the Munson legacy. We currently carry over 1600 cultivars and make new additions yearly.
Our
plants are field grown in the farm’s old tobacco patch. This soil
is unamended and the plants are grown with little or no mulch.
This helps us easily determine which plant a doer and which is a
wimp. We don’t have the time or interest in babying a
plant. If they don’t bloom well and increase at a reasonable rate
for us then we don’t want them. We want you to be happy with the way
our plants grow in your garden.
We
have a gallery of several hundred pictures of our plants for you to
inspect. These are not professional pictures. Some of them
were taken by our 17-year-old daughter. These are pictures of the
plants directly as they grow in the field with no bells or whistles
added. What you see in these pictures should be what you should
expect to see when those plants bloom for you.
This
past year we again had a wonderful time during open gardens visiting
with customers and friends that stopped by to see our field. We
truly appreciate and thank our repeat customers and those that tried us
for the first time. We have made some very dear friends through
our daylilies and our markets. We hope our service and
quality of plants met your expectations. As always, your
satisfaction with our plants is of first importance with us.
Stroll through our plant galleries. If you see something that interests you, give us call. We’ll be glad to answer any questions that you have and are always glad to talk daylilies with folks. If you’re in the area during bloom season, please consider stopping by. We’d love to meet you and show you around!
